Ask students if they have ever had a good idea but given it up when someone said it wasn't good or it became too frustrating? Have students share their ideas with a neighbour or with the group. Explain that being a Creative thinker takes perseverance. Ask them to listen to the story and think about what the character did to persevere. Read aloud Candace Fleming's book "apa’s Mechanical Fish." Create a class list of things the author did to persevere Have students reflect in a journal about how perseverance in important to creativity and how it could help them in life. Perseverance (grades 3-12) The concept of persevering through ambiguity, setbacks, and failure is a difficult skill to teach, however by showing students the benefits of persevering they may be able to reflect on how it could positively impact their lives. In the following Ted Talks, William Kamkwamba perseveres through a challenging famine and uses ingenuity and persistence to create change for his family. Watch the video and have students reflect on why perseverance is such an important quality for this young man and how it could be helpful in their lives.
