Analyze as you Read (grades 2-12)
Read a picture book to students and 'listen for picture words' (Adrienne Gear). Students visualized images while listening to story, used author's words to make pictures in their mind (wrote those words around bubble), after listening to the story, drew image. (see pictures below from "Orca Chief by Roy Henry Vickers) Next lesson, students orally summarized story using images from book. We analyed p.24,25 and brainstormed all the living things in the image. Students chose one and researched it in the computer lab. We used Draw it/recall it template from Adrienne Gear: drew 3 images, 3 facts for each image. Student Centred Assessment (grades K-12)
Philosopher's Cafe (grades 6-12)
Provide student with a philosophical or controversial question and have them discuss the question. Teach students aspects of Socratic dialogue to develop their questioning. |
