What to Do With an Idea (grades 3-12)
Ask students if they have ever had a good idea? Have students share their ideas with a neighbour or with the group. Explain that being a Creative thinker takes a unique set of skills. Ask them to listen to the story and think about what the character did that helped them be creative. Read aloud Kobi Yamada's book "What do you do With an Idea." Create a class list of things the author did to help their creativity. Have students reflect in a journal what you need to be creative and how these skills could enhance one of their ideas. Building on the Ideas of Others (grades 3-12) The concept of building on the ideas of others sometimes is seen and 'stealing' ideas by students. There is a difference between stealing and advancing ideas however. In the following Ted Talks, Richard Turere takes a strategy for keeping lions out of his village and makes it even better. Watch the video and have students identify the different steps Richard took to make his idea better. My Invention that Made Peace with the Lions - Ted Talks |
